Longfields, Cedarhill and Davidson Heights
The 1990s and early 2000s wave. These houses are on their second carpet now, and the calls are full upstairs replacements — the builder carpet went a decade ago, the replacement is now itself worn, and the stairs went before either.
Chapman Mills and Strandherd
Mid-2000s stock with a heavy proportion of townhomes. Narrow flights, tight landings, and a lot of traffic concentrated on very little carpet, which is why stair work outnumbers room work here by a wide margin. A fair number are tenanted, and those come to us as turnover jobs booked against a lease date.
Stonebridge and Half Moon Bay
The newest streets, with the largest floor plates and the most unfinished basements still waiting. Work here is split between first replacements upstairs and finishing a lower level for the first time.

Twenty-five years of subdivision building produced houses with genuinely similar bones, and that similarity is useful — we can quote a Barrhaven two-storey accurately from a room count and a floor plan.
One main flight, carrying everything
Nearly every house here funnels the entire household through a single staircase. That flight wears out two to three times faster than the bedrooms it leads to, which is why so many Barrhaven jobs start as "just the stairs" and become a whole upstairs once the colours are compared side by side.
Builder-grade carpet with a known lifespan
The carpet that came with these houses was specified to a price, not to a wear rating. Ten to twelve years is a realistic life for it in a family home, and it fails predictably: stairs first, upstairs hall second, bedrooms last. Where the pile is still sound and only the tension has gone, a stretch buys years instead.
Lower levels on relatively young slabs
Basements here sit on newer slabs poured over a vapour barrier, which makes them good candidates for carpet below grade. A moisture-barrier pad is still the right specification, but the underlying moisture load is lower than in the 1980s stock further north.
How a Barrhaven install day runs
These houses are lived in while we work, so the sequence matters as much as the carpet. This is how a normal day goes.
Morning: bedrooms first
We start upstairs and work the bedrooms before the hall, so each room is torn out, re-padded, carpeted and refurnished as a unit. By lunchtime the sleeping arrangements for that night are already sorted.
Afternoon: hall, then the flight
The hall follows once the rooms are back in service, and the stairs go last because they block movement between floors while they are being wrapped. That ordering is the difference between a household that can use the house all day and one that cannot.
End of day: walk it before we load out
Old carpet and offcuts go into the van, the floor gets vacuumed, and we walk it with you before anything is signed. Anything you are not happy with gets dealt with while the tools are still in the house.

How long does a Barrhaven two-storey take to re-carpet?
A typical upstairs — three or four bedrooms, a hall and the main flight — is a single working day including tear-out and disposal. Adding a finished basement in the same visit usually pushes it into a second day, and we will say which it is before you book rather than after.
Our Half Moon Bay house still has builder carpet. Is it worth replacing all at once?
Usually yes, and mainly for a boring reason: doing the whole upstairs in one visit costs meaningfully less per square foot than doing it in three visits, because one setup, one delivery and one disposal run covers all of it. The stairs are the exception — they can sensibly be done first on their own.
Can you work around a family that's living in the house?
That is nearly every Barrhaven job we do. We work room by room so there is always somewhere to be, move standard furniture ourselves, and keep the tear-out route on drop cloths. Bedrooms are finished and refurnished the same day so nobody sleeps on a sub-floor.
