Nepean neighbourhoods we work in
Nepean is large and its housing is not uniform. Where a house sits in the map tells us roughly what decade it was built and therefore what we will find when the old carpet comes up.
Crestview, Manordale and Trend-Arlington
Post-war and 1960s bungalows and side-splits on generous lots. Original hardwood under broadloom is common, floors are usually flat, and the most frequent call is a first full replacement after a very long service life.
Centrepointe and Craig Henry
Later stock, more two-storey singles, more finished basements. These houses are now on their second or third carpet, and the work skews toward whole-upstairs replacements and stair flights rather than one-room jobs.
The Merivale corridor and Parkwood Hills
Apartment and condo buildings alongside townhome rows. Access and elevator booking shape the schedule far more than the carpet does, and we plan around both rather than turning up and hoping. A good share of it is tenancy turnover work, and the business strip along Merivale itself sends us office and retail floors on the same trips.

A sixty-year-old house is not a harder carpet job, but it is a different one, and the differences are all under the carpet rather than on top of it.
Check what the carpet is hiding
Before quoting a replacement in an older Nepean bungalow we lift a corner in an inconspicuous spot. Original oak strip flooring in decent condition changes the whole decision, and finding it after you have paid for carpet is a bad afternoon for everybody. When the hardwood is worth saving, the job turns into a straight tear-out instead.
Split-level flights and awkward landings
The classic Nepean split has short flights and small landings, which means more cuts and more wrapped edges per square foot than a straight two-storey run. It is fiddly work rather than difficult work, and it is why stairs in these houses are quoted per flight.
Sub-floors that have moved
Six decades of seasonal movement leaves squeaks and the occasional lifted board. With the carpet up it is a five-minute job to screw them down, and it is the single cheapest improvement available on the day. We do it as standard rather than as an extra.
Booking a Nepean job around the seasons
Our Nepean calendar does not look like our Kanata one. Repairs cluster in late winter and installs cluster in summer, and knowing which you are dealing with is worth a couple of weeks.
February and March: stretching season
Months of dry forced-air heat relax carpet backing, and the ripples that appear over an Ottawa winter show up in our calendar as a wave of stretching calls. If a Nepean hallway has started rippling, late winter is when we are set up for exactly that job.
June to August: install season
Everyone wants new carpet before the school year, and the summer weeks book out first. A Nepean install approved in April lands comfortably; the same job approved in mid-July is competing for the last dates of the season.

Do you work in older Nepean bungalows with hardwood under the carpet?
Often, and it changes the conversation. Plenty of the 1960s stock through Crestview and Manordale has original hardwood under the broadloom. If we lift a corner and find it sound, we will say so before you spend money re-carpeting over a floor you may want refinished instead.
My Nepean split level has carpet on three half-flights. Is that priced as one job?
It is priced per flight, because each one is a separate set of treads to cut, wrap and finish. Doing all three in the same visit is cheaper per flight than doing them one at a time, so it is worth quoting them together even if you only intend to do one now.
Can you carpet a Nepean condo with restricted elevator hours?
Yes — it just needs booking. Tell us the building's move-in window and whether the elevator has to be reserved, and we will schedule the delivery and the install inside it. Getting a roll upstairs is the only part of a condo job that is genuinely time-constrained.
